Work began this week on the Burnham on Crouch Station House, a project which will see the station building converted into a community hub and artist studio, it is expected to be completed later in the year.

A partnership between train operator, Abellio Greater Anglia, Essex County Council and Burnham Town Council will see a full renovation of the internal station house building and space within the house will be split, offering two affordable art studios as well as space for community and voluntary use which will be managed by Burnham Town Council.

Sean Perry, Head of Economic Growth and Development for Essex County Council said:

“The Station House in Burnham looks set for a pivotal role within the community. It is eagerly anticipated that the conversion of the house will promote economic prosperity for the town, as well as provide impassioned artists’ studios as a hub for cultural development.”

Councillor Ron Pratt, Burnham-on-Crouch Town Mayor said:

"The Burnham Town Mayor and the Town Council fully support this project and are aware of the commitment required. The Town Council is determined to make it work and as such it has the unanimous backing of Town Councillors. It will make a great contribution to the community and many residents have called to confirm this.

Paul Oxley, Stakeholder Manager for Abellio Greater Anglia said:

“We’re aware that local residents have wanted this project to come to fruition for many years and various schemes have been proposed but never got off the ground. I’m delighted that we’re the train operator that is able to deliver the project for the benefit of the local community”
