New waiting rooms at Wickford rail station are benefiting passengers.

Abellio Greater Anglia has upgraded the waiting rooms on platforms 1 and 3/4 with funding from Access for All to create easier access for those with mobility issues.

The waiting room on platform 1 has been smartened up with a fresh new coat of paint and new seating.

The new waiting room on platform 3/4 benefits from push-button automatic doors, a new access ramp and seating (both compliant with the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act), energy-efficient motion-activated lighting, energy-efficient heating and air-conditioning, new flooring and sofas, as well as redecoration in Abellio Greater Anglia colours.

A total rewire of the waiting room on platform ¾ has provided additional plug sockets so that passengers can charge laptops and mobile phones and work while they wait with the installation of tables, including a low table compliant with the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act.

Bill Sier, Assistant Area Customer Service Manager, said, “We hope that passengers enjoy the new, more comfortable waiting rooms. Investing in upgrades to stations across the network is extremely important to Abellio Greater Anglia, demonstrating our commitment to providing excellent facilities and service to our customers.”
