A £2 kids’ deal from Abellio Greater Anglia has seen over 20,000 children enjoy a cheaper day out by rail this summer.

The train operator released the special off-peak fare for children aged between five and 15 on most routes across its network, selling over 40,000 tickets from July to September.

The walk-up discount fare, which meant that accompanying children travelled for less than the price of a sandwich, saw thousands of families taking advantage of the opportunity to leave the car at home and enjoy a great value day out by train.

Andy Camp, Abellio Greater Anglia’s Commercial Director said: “We introduced this offer in response to customer feedback so we are delighted that it proved popular, seeing thousands of families across East Anglia enjoying a bargain summer day out with us.”

Pete Waters, Brand Manager at Visit East Anglia, said: “There are so many brilliant family day trips across the region and this was a perfect chance to enjoy them without the frustration of traffic jams and delays…arriving fresh and ready to have fun! Encouraging youngsters to get into the habit of using our excellent rail links is also great long-term for the environment.”
